SAIC alum Dox Thrash depicted African American life through a printmaking process he helped invent and perfect called carbordundum printing. Thrash used the medium's incredible range of black-and-white-gradation to create transfixing portraits of African Americans before the dawn of the civil rights movement. 

SAIC was named the top producer of Fulbright US Students for special focus four-year institutions for 2018–19 with six awardees, reports the Chronicle of Higher Education. 

Ayesha Singh (MFA 2018) has been named 30 Under 30 in Forbes India for her artistry. 

Caroline Picard (MFA 2010) recently shut the doors of the Logan Square bookstore, gallery, and performing arts space Sector 2337.
