WTTW Talks to Alum René Arceo About Continuing Mexico’s Printmaking Tradition
The life of alum René Arceo (BFA 1985) is the latest to be featured on WTTW’s Chicago Tonight, a documentary-style series spotlighting “everyday Chicagoans who reflect the city’s 77 diverse community areas.” Following a nearly two-decade career as a Chicago Public Schools teacher, Arceo’s video portrait affirms his newfound recommitment to his artistic practice of Mexican printmaking, a tradition dating back to the 1800s. In the interview, the artist also describes his journey from 19-year-old immigrant from a small town near Guadalajara to US citizen, School of the Art Institute of Chicago alum, and founder of Arceo Press, where he publishes prints with artists from around the world.
In celebration of alum Georgia O’Keeffe: My New Yorks opening current SAIC students were invited to submit artworks inspired by O’keeffe and the city of Chicago.
