CFDA 2018 Design Graduates Include SAIC Alums
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has released their 2018 Design Graduates under the theme "I AM: WE ARE.” CFDA announced 60 talents emerging in the fashion system through the empowerment of education who, according to their website, “display a vision for fashion’s future that extends far beyond commerce and product.” Two SAIC alums, Maria Beniaris (BFA 2018) and Qing Qing Cao (BFA 2018), have been honored with this distinction. They have been dubbed the philosopher and the dancer.
Maria Beniaris’ work is inspired by her upbringing, investigating perceptions and realities of middle-class America through textiles and design. Qing Qing Cao marries aesthetics to the senses in womenswear; creating garments that act as a second shell on the body.

In celebration of alum Georgia O’Keeffe: My New Yorks opening current SAIC students were invited to submit artworks inspired by O’keeffe and the city of Chicago.
