SAIC Alum and Faculty Members Contribute to New Media Futures Book

Artist and SAIC alum Ellen Sandor (MFA 1975, HON 2014), Donna J. Cox, and Janine Fron are co-editors of the recently released book New Media Futures: The Rise of Women in the Digital Arts, which chronicles 22 women who went to school or worked at SAIC, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), in the 1980s and beyond, during a pivotal time for digital arts media in the Midwest. Along with 10 other contributors to the book, including Professor Emeritus Joan Truckenbrod (Art and Technology Studies), they will attend the upcoming symposium and book signing, Herstory: Digital Innovations at the National Center for Computing Applications at UIUC. Associate Professor in the Film, Video, New Media, and Animation department Claudia Hart and Professor in the Art History, Theory, and Criticism department Lisa Wainwright also contributed to this important anthology, which captures the spirit and contributions of women working within emergent media as diverse as digital games, virtual reality, medicine, supercomputing visualization, and browser-based art.
