Alum Frank Stewart’s Photographs Highlighted in ABC News

ABC News covered alum Frank Stewart’s (SAIC 1972) photographs as part of his retrospective at the Brandywine Museum of Art. The exhibition, Frank Stewart’s Nexus: An American Photographer’s Journey, 1960s to the Present, explores his long practice of photographing Black life in the United States and its multifaceted cultures.

When speaking about one piece, Katrina: Hammond B-3, 9th Ward, New Orleans, he stated, “I wanted to talk about the Black church and what influence they had on the culture.” Stewart said of his post-Katrina work in New Orleans, “This organ, the music and everything corresponds. It all comes together. I just wanted to show the devastation of churches and the music and the culture.”
