Student Models on Display in Latest Exhibition by Tadao Ando

Lincoln Park’s newest art venue designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando opened October 16 with an exhibition examining French architect Le Corbusier. Wrightwood 659 was designed by Ando and occupies a former apartment building built in the 1920s. Visitors will have an opportunity to make reservations to view the inaugural exhibition Ando and Le Corbusier: Masters of Architecture through December 15.

SAIC students enrolled in Seems Real, On the Surface, a summer Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects (AIADO) companion course to the Alphawood Foundation exhibition taught by AIADO Lecturers Aura Venckunaite and Cyrus Penarroyo had the opportunity to construct models of Ando's Clark Institute that are currently on display on the fourth floor of Wrightwood 659. Hand-drawn sketches by Ando are on display next to each of the models and signed in blue marker on the walls of the gallery space reports Curbed Chicago. Founded by Fred Eychaner and Dan Whittaker, the exhibition space is focused on showcasing activist art. Upcoming exhibits include: Dimensions of Citizenship, part of the US exhibition at the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale.
