Nick Cave's Let Go Featured in the New York Times

The New York Times recently covered SAIC Professor Nick Cave's dance-based performance and installation Let Go. The article notes that Cave was "inspired by his own disco days, which propelled him through college and graduate school." Open to the community to join in and dance, Let Go includes Up Right, which addresses police brutality and gun violence using a chorus dressed in Cave's Soundsuits, and a fashion-focused Freedom Ball slated for June 16. Let Go is showing until July 1 in New York City's Park Avenue Armory. 

Up Right will be performed in New York for the first time. It "features dancers who slowly metamorphose into 10-foot-tall shamanesque creatures as they don their rustling Soundsuits and stomp around." Let Go was commissioned by the Park Avenue Armory and invites anyone to express "wild, unencumbered energy" through movement and dance. 

The show approaches activism and movements through "activating spaces" and physical movement as "a way to bridge our cultural divide.” Cave believes "we all need a place to lose ourselves, and unfurl" in what he calls an "anxious, divided moment in our country."
