Awards Given to Emerging Young Artists from SAIC
Brianna Beck (MA 2019), Jillian Santora (SAIC 2014–17), and Kendall Schauder (BFA 2017) received Awards of Excellence in the VSA Emerging Young Artists Competition. Since 2002, the Kennedy Center and Volkswagen Group of America have teamed up for the VSA Emerging Young Artists Program, a Jean Kennedy Smith Arts and Disability Program. The yearlong, traveling exhibition titled Electrify! will present the artwork of 15 emerging young artists with disabilities. The exhibit kicked off in Washington DC on October 25 and will be on tour until September 30, 2018. In addition to presenting their artwork in the exhibit, the winners received an all-expenses-paid professional development workshop in Washington, DC.
In celebration of alum Georgia O’Keeffe: My New Yorks opening current SAIC students were invited to submit artworks inspired by O’keeffe and the city of Chicago.
