Erin Chlaghmo Responds to Travel Ban with Wallpaper
Alum Erin Chlaghmo (Post-Bac 2009, MFA 2012) is showing not all wallpapers belong in the background. NBC Chicago brought her design business front and center on a recent news segment, showing how she is using wallpaper to respond to the travel ban placed on Muslim countries. Drawing visual inspiration from trips overseas, Chlaghmo represents each country in her collection. While Chlaghmo strives to make beautiful work, she works to highlight larger political issues, too. Part of the proceeds from her wallpapers go to the Heartland Alliance, an antipoverty organization that also works closely with refugees.
In celebration of alum Georgia O’Keeffe: My New Yorks opening current SAIC students were invited to submit artworks inspired by O’keeffe and the city of Chicago.
