Faculty and Alumni Challenge Gender Norms in Upcoming Exhibition

Several members of the SAIC community will participate in Trigger: Gender as a Tool and a Weapon, an upcoming exhibition at the New Museum that “investigates gender’s place in contemporary art and culture at a moment of political upheaval and renewed culture wars.” The exhibition, which features more than 40 artists working across a range of mediums—including Director of the Low-Residency MFA program Gregg Bordowitz and alumni Wu Tsang (BFA 2004) and Josh Faught (MFA 2006)—was also the focus of a recent Vulture article. In it, curator Johanna Burton acknowledges the provocative nature of the show's title but assures readers of its timeliness, stating that, "There is a new idea that if something challenges you, it's a bad thing. That used to be what art did."
