Gene Siskel Film Center Named Influential Theater

Movie Maker named SAIC’s Gene Siskel Film Center (GSFC) one of four institutions that have shaped independent film for decades. When film was in flux in the late 60s, writer and filmmaker Sheldon Renan asked, not what people want to see, but what do people want to make? In that spirit, Movie Maker shines the light on regional theaters that have answered—and continue answering—that question. Since 1972, the GSFC has offered audiences a carefully curated selection of experimental films, putting movies in cultural and historical contexts with lectures, panels, and publications.
