Jeff Koons to Collaborate with Louis Vuitton on New Handbag Line

Jeff Koons (SAIC 1975–76, HON 2008) is teaming up with Louis Vuitton on a line of handbags and accessories that feature several of the most famous paintings ever created.

“I hope [people] embrace them as a continuation of my effort to erase the hierarchy attached to fine art and old masters,” Koons told the New York Times.

The bags, which officially launched on April 11, are based on his Gazing Ball series; the focal point is each artist's name dead center of the bag done in a reflective gold Arial font. Featuring bright-colored leather handles and trim, the artist's initials and the Louis Vuitton insignia are stenciled throughout the bags, which showcase fascimiles of Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Ruben's The Tiger Hunt, and Van Gogh's Wheat Field with Cypresses, among others.
