SAIC Faculty Wins Startup Award

SAIC faculty and alum Sharon Burdett (MFA 2005, Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects) has won the 2017 Startup Challenge for her invention of a home bread-baking device. The $3000 prize, awarded by the University of Illinois at Chicago, is shared with her husband, Ted Burdett, an MBA student and design professor at UIC.

Forneau Bread Oven—which was initially funded by a Kickstarter campaign—is made to fit inside a conventional oven. A cast iron apparatus, it is designed to cook loaves evenly. An enclosed design ensures a crispy crust. Read the rest of the article at ChicagoInno.
