ARTnews Shines Light on Underrated Artists
ARTnews recently featured several SAIC community members in an article recognizing underrated artists. Dean of Graduate Studies, Arnold Kemp was given praise for the intelligent engagement of his work with abstraction, personal history, memory, and popular culture.
Other SAIC community members who were mentioned include alumni Nancy Spero (BFA 1949, HON 1991), Gladys Nilsson (BFA 1962), Christina Ramberg (BFA 1968, MFA 1973), Suellen Rocca (BFA 1964), Diane Simpson (BFA 1971, MFA 1978), Paul Chan (BFA 1996), Elizabeth Catlett (SAIC 1941) and faculty Barbara Rossi (MFA 1970, Painting and Drawing), and Kamau Amu Patton (Visual and Critical Studies).
In celebration of alum Georgia O’Keeffe: My New Yorks opening current SAIC students were invited to submit artworks inspired by O’keeffe and the city of Chicago.
