Alum's Fashion Label Pays Homage to Strong Women

SAIC alum, Rosa Halpern (BFA 2014) was recently featured in the Coveteur fashion magazine. She spoke to the publication about the launch of her Toronto-based label, Namesake, which specializes in customized leather jackets. Halpern's brand is structured around strong female figures, and the jackets carry the names of these women; from Frida Kahlo and Isadora Duncan to Rosa Parks and Yoko Ono.

Halpern decided to pursue fashion at SAIC, because "[SAIC] has a more conceptual approach to fashion. They’re more interested in avant-garde and teaching you how to think like a designer," she says. Read more about Halpern in the article "This Designer Is About to Blow up, and for a Very Good Reason."
