SAIC Student Takes the Stage in Young Playwrights Festival

For the past 30 years, Chicago’s Pegasus Theatre has hosted their Young Playwrights Festival, which gives teenagers the opportunity to see their plays produced and directed by a professional theatre company. This year, one of the plays chosen for the festival was written by SAIC first-year student Elyssa Saldana (BFA 2020).

Saldana’s achievement was covered in the Chicago Tribune this week. Saldana wrote her winning one act play, Guarding the Princess, while she was still in high school at Whitney Young Magnet High School. She is now studying creative writing here at SAIC.

The Young Playwrights Festival will run through January 29 at the Chicago Dramatists.
