SAIC in Detroit

On September 9, SAIC came together for the opening night of Sanford Biggers' (MFA 1999) solo exhibition, Subjective Cosmology at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD). Biggers, who is also a member of SAIC's Board of Governors created an immersive and interactive experience throughout MOCAD, incorporating video installation, visual art objects, and new media. The exhibition which featured new works by the artist included the three-part film suite, Shuffle, Shake, Shatter and the installation Sleeping Giant, which consisted of found materials collected during the show's installation. Opening night also included a special performance by Biggers' band, Moon Medicin, a multimedia concept group that featured a rotating cast of musicians and performance artists based in Detroit. The group performed original compositions interspersed with reimagined cover versions.
