Chicago Reader: SAIC Students Explore Different Kinds of Blackness in 'De Nue'

The Chicago Reader recently profiled SAIC’s Student Union Gallery’s exhibition, “De Nue,” which runs through September 25 at the LeRoy Neiman Center Gallery and Gallery X.

“De Nue” is a pun on the slang term, “dat new new,” and features work from 10 black SAIC students selected by a jury of working artists and curators, which included Faheem Majeed, Aymar Jean Christian, Felicia Mings, and Erica Ross.

An exhibiting artist, Da’Niro Elle Brown said of her practice, “I want to expand my voice as an artist and a young woman of color. Part of my practice is accepting who I am. I use art to try to help expand that more. Instead of letting it bring me down, I push forward.”
