Chicago Tribune Profiles SAIC Alumni and Brookfield Zoo's Resident Artisans

The Chicago Tribune recently profiled two artists and SAIC alumni who are keeping zoo animals happy by making natural-looking toys and devices, "invented to shake a zebra out of its lethargy, give a warm bed to a tree shrew, force a gorilla to forage for his food or provide a polar bear with a stone that rolls unpredictably," says writer Christopher Borrelli. Sarah Feliciano and Matthew Owens (BFA 1985) are Brookfield Zoo's resident artisans and create "enrichment tools" for zoos all over the world. In the story, Jessica Sheftel, Enrichment Supervisor for the San Diego Zoo said, "Enrichment tools made in-house that look natural and are functional for the animals? The future is what Sarah and Matt are doing."
