FNews Wins Big at the 2014 Gold Circle Awards

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association announced the winners from its 31st Gold Circle Awards program, which attracted 11,407 entries produced by students at colleges, universities, and secondary schools throughout the United States between June 2013 and June 2014. SAIC's F Newsmagazine and its staff did well at the awards, receiving a total 11 mentions, including several in first and second place. The FNews staff won second place in Overall Design, and first in Headline writing. Individual staff including students and alumni honored were Meghan Ryan Morris (MFA 2014), 1, Op-Ed or News Analysis Page Design Portfolio of Work; Frederick Eschrich (MFA 2014), 3, Single Subject News for “Syria: Facts, Figures and Opinions"; Alexia Casanova and Troy Pieper, 2, for Briefs Writing; Alyssa Moxley (MFA 2014), 2, Sidebar Writing for “The Sound of One Man Thinking;” H. Melt (MFAW 2014), 2, First Person Experience for “The Right to Use My Own Name;” Nadine Mostafa, 1, Personal Opinion: Off-Campus Issues for “Silence is Surrender;.” Certificates of Merit were awarded to Alex Wolff (BA 2014), In-depth News/Feature Story for “Cash 4 Sperm;” Anjulie Rao (MFA 2014), Personality Profile for “The Patron Saint of Self-Mutilation;” and to Tessa Elbetter (BA 2017) in the Single Spot News Photograph category for “Boots on the Ground." FNews Magazine has previously received the Pacemaker Award from the Associated Collegiate Press in November 2013, and first place award for General Excellence at the 31st Illinois College Press Association Convention in February 2014.
