SAIC Receives $50,000 Scholarship from Morton Salt

In honor of the 100th anniversary of its iconic logo, Morton Salt established a $50,000 merit-based scholarship at SAIC for the 2014-15 academic year. Morton Salt Girl Centennial Scholarships were awarded to 50 SAIC students. Morton Salt has a long history of philanthropy in Chicago, which includes the construction of the Morton Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago. Building on this legacy to support higher education, the company also held a nationwide contest inviting artists to redesign the Morton Salt can label for the 100th anniversary.

An anniversary celebration and press event announced the scholarship recipients on Friday, September 26. SAIC students Andra Helton (BFA 2016) and Eleanor Schichtel (BFA 2016) engaged the public with live art demonstrations including paintings and 3D work. Christian Herrmann, CEO of Morton Salt, presented SAIC's scholarship check to Tiffany Holmes, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and recognized the student recipients for their outstanding work. Mayor Rahm Emanuel also attended the event, declaring September 26 Morton Salt Day in Chicago.
