SAIC Assistant Professor Talks About Hometown, Family, and Practice

Assistant Professor LaToya Ruby Frazier (Photography) recently published The Notion of Family, which features her photographs of the reality of living in the American Rust Belt. Speaking with the LA Times, Frazier opened up about how it was growing up in Braddock, PA, and how her work is grounded in the lives and experiences of her family and her social circle in Braddock. She said of the book, "I'm hoping this book can help get people on the ground: activists, doctors, civil rights lawyers. It's not over. Now I need to make the book a weapon, just like I made my camera a weapon."
