Frances Whitehead’s Work with the 606 Soon to Be Enjoyed by Public

Chicago's 2.7-mile long elevated trail, known as the 606, is set to open Saturday, June 6. Artist Frances Whitehead, who teaches at SAIC, is a member of the design team responsible for reinventing the space—a task deemed "heroic" by the Chicago Tribune. Whitehead collaborated on interactive elements such as an observatory for experiencing equinoxes and solstices. Whitehead also recommended including the steel distance markers, which will collect evidence for scientists to track the effects of climate change on our ecosystem.
