SAIC and Kunlé Adeyemi Collaborate for the Chicago Architecture Biennial
The inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial is supporting the design and construction of four kiosks that will be displayed in Millennium Park during the span of the biennial. Kiosks will be dismantled and reassembled in permanent sites along the lakefront in summer of 2016. Co-curator Sarah Herda explains on Chicago Tonight the hope for more kiosks to be built during future biennials to serve as a lasting legacy display of contemporary architecture.
The Chicago Tribune reports that SAIC will be collaborating with Kunlé Adeyemi, of Amsterdam-based architecture firm NLE, on a kiosk to be constructed at Lincoln Park’s Montrose Beach. There will also be a smaller installation at Millennium Park, using components of the installation that Chicagoans will see at Montrose. Curbed describes the design as a cantilevered structure of concrete and limestone that will project out over the beach to provide shelter for beachgoers.
Two of the other kiosks will be collaborations between the University of Chicago-Illinois and Paul Preissner with Paul Anderson, and the Illinois Institute of Technology and Pezo von Ellrichshausen. The remaining kiosk will be by Team Ultramoderne, the winner of the Lakefront Kiosk international design competition. The collaboration was also featured on Designboom.com.
