SAIC Alum Named 2015 Illinois Secondary Art Educator of the Year
The Illinois Art Education Association (IAEA) has named Marty Voelker, who earned his teaching certificate from SAIC, the 2015 Illinois Secondary Art Educator of the Year. This award recognizes the exemplary contributions, service and achievements of one outstanding IAEA member annually. Marty Voelker currently teaches drawing, painting, and computer art at Downers Grove North High School and works as a freelance illustrator, specializing in illustrations and photographs of local architectural landmarks. Voelker also serves as the Head of the Regional Suburban Chicago Affiliate for the Scholastic Art Awards, as an Advisory Committee Member College of DuPage for Graphic Design & Illustration, and is a juror for local art shows and competitions.
In celebration of alum Georgia O’Keeffe: My New Yorks opening current SAIC students were invited to submit artworks inspired by O’keeffe and the city of Chicago.
