Chicago Tribune's Best of 2015
The Chicago Tribune released its “Best of 2015” lists for the year. In The Best of Chicago Architecture, SAIC faculty member Frances Whitehead was highlighted for her role as Lead Artist on The 606 trail, built on what was once a freight line. The Tribune predicts this contribution will pave the way for future Chicago park developments and community projects.
Even more faculty and alumni made the list of The Best of 2015 Visual Arts. Faculty members noted for their projects, curatorial work, writing, and art practice included Mark Booth, Paola Cabal, Maria Gaspar, Matthew Goulish, Michelle Grabner, Lin Hixson, Jason Lazarus, and Sonja Thomsen. Alumni mentioned include Karen Azarnia (MFA 2008), Billy McGuinness (MFA 2014), Raven Falquez Munsell (Dual MA 2014), and John Preus (MFA 2005).
In celebration of alum Georgia O’Keeffe: My New Yorks opening current SAIC students were invited to submit artworks inspired by O’keeffe and the city of Chicago.
