Surface Magazine Features Faculty-Made Clothing Line

Assistant Professor of Fashion Design and SAIC alum Abigail Glaum-Lathbury (BFA 2006) collaborated with video artist and fellow alum Maura Brewer (BFA 2006) to found the Rational Dress Society's (RDS) Jumpsuit project, which was featured in Special Projects Editor Bettina Korek's Surface Magazine column about projects "she believes you should be aware of at this particular moment." RDS's newest line of “monogarment” jumpsuit, is available both ready made and as an open-source, downloadable pattern for replication. The garment is ethically made in the United States and intentionally not gender-specific, suitable for anyone. Korek writes, “in an era when fashion is driven by endless personal choice, the RDS motto—'Free yourself from the tyranny of choice!'—stems from studies showing that too many options can lead paradoxically to feelings of demotivation and dissatisfaction.”
