SAIC Alum Featured in the Examiner

SAIC alum Stephen Scott Gross (BFA 1986) was recently profiled by the Examiner as part of the news website’s artist spotlight series.

In his work as a professional photographer and owner of a fine art printing studio, Brooklyn Editions in New York City, Gross draws from images of nature–especially from flora and fauna–and is fascinated by abstraction. He first found inspiration in nature while pursuing one of his non-artistic passions: rock climbing.

When asked how he developed his artistic style, Gross replied that his style “is a product of education, experimentation, and examining the results. Little by little one refines the process and techniques and discovers the common threads and the keys that make your own work click and give it its voice.”

In the article, Gross also discusses early artistic influences, his choice of digital photography over film, and working from home as both an artist and single parent.
