Sun-Times Goes Behind the Scenes for “Shoretime Spaceline” Exhibition

A new exhibition titled “Shoretime Spaceline” by SAIC faculty member Karen Reimer (Fiber and Material Studies) opened at the Hyde Park Art Center this past weekend, as featured in the Chicago Sun-Times.

The exhibition was inspired by the Chicago Beach Hotel that was built for the World’s Columbian Exposition in 1893. The Sun-Times was onsite to document the installation process and interview Reimer and the exhibition’s curator. “I was caught by that story of the hotel that was actually right on the beach,” Reimer told the Sun-Times. “The beach has been built out a lot, as has most of the lakefront, so the idea is to take sand and put it back to make the beach come back.”

Reimer installed 40 tons of sand in the exhibition space, with the help of current SAIC undergraduate student and Hyde Park Art Center intern Will Krauland. The exhibition will be on view through August 13.
