The New Yorker Features SAIC Alum’s Film Retrospective

The New Yorker recently published a piece celebrating filmmaker Hong Sang-soo (MFA 1989). A retrospective of Sang-soo’s films opened at the Museum of the Moving Image last week. New Yorker writer Richard Brody praised Sang-soo, saying that the retrospective of his work “is one of the most important recent movie events, because Hong is one of the best filmmakers in the world.”

The article explores Sang-soo’s distinctive styles, discusses his many films, and includes a list of Brody’s many other writings on Sang-soo over the last decade. As Brody notes, the retrospective—which is a rare chance to see Sang-soo’s films as they appear on DVD or streaming platforms—will run through June 19.
