Alum Natalie Bookchin Exhibits at International Center of Photography

A graduate of SAIC’s Photography department, Natalie Bookchin (MFA 1990) has an interdisciplinary and bold approach to media’s possibilities. The International Center of Photography (ICP) most recently highlighted Bookchin’s talents at an exhibition entitled Public, Private, Secret, which critiques contemporary culture’s sense of surveillance and privacy.

Bookchin’s work is a series of “collective self-portraits.” “Rectangles of varying sizes appear on the large screen, one at a time or in rows or clusters, like a switchboard lighting up in random patterns,” says Newsweek. “Each features a video of a stranger as his or her voice narrates. Sometimes the voices overlap, like a chorus of confessionals.”
