SAIC Partners with Other Tech and Education Leaders on Urban Sensing Project

SAIC is at the forefront of numerous art and tech innovations, including virtual reality, animation, and, most recently, urban sensing. Together with Argonne Laboratories, AT&T, and the University of Chicago, the School embarked on a project entitled An Array of Things, which measures livability factors, like air quality, through “a network of interactive, modular sensor boxes” installed around the city. “Five hundred nodes that will include technology to collect environmental, pedestrian and traffic data are set to go up around Chicago by 2018,” writes the Chicago Tribune. “AT&T's cellular data service will allow them to transmit information to research partners.” The goal is to increase the accuracy of apps and offer clearer environmental information to the public.
