New York Times Highlights Alum Rashid Johnson’s Guggenheim Career Survey

In a New York Times feature, School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) alum Rashid Johnson (SAIC 2003–04, HON 2018), the acclaimed multidisciplinary artist, is highlighted for his upcoming mid-career survey at the Guggenheim Museum in 2025. Johnson will transform Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic rotunda with nearly 90 works across various media, including photography, film, mixed-media paintings, and installations. His work delves into complex narratives of Black identity, cultural displacement, and social alienation, creating immersive environments that resonate deeply. Curated by Naomi Beckwith and Andrea Karnes, the exhibition, titled A Poem for Deep Thinkers, opens on April 18, 2025, and runs through January 18, 2026.
