Mural Completed in Collaboration with the Historic Preservation Department Featured in Curbed Chicago

Curbed Chicago recently featured a mural created by SAIC alumna Ashley Pastore (MFA 2018) as one of 17 public art in Chicago to see right now. The mural was the result of a collaboration between Amtrak, Chicago-based architecture firm Goettsch Partners and the Department of Historic Preservation that stemmed from the renovation of the Burlington Room of Chicago’s Union Station. As the Burlinton Room was being renovated, the historic wallpaper adorning the room could not be salvaged and Pastore was chosen to repurpose the wallpaper into a mural. The damaged wallpaper pieces were also used to train young preservationists in the art of paper conservation.
