Historic Preservation Faculty Celebrate the One Year Anniversary of the 606 Project

SAIC Instructor Jim Peters was featured in this short video, which celebrates the one-year anniversary of the "606 Trail," a 2.7-mile-long elevated bicycle and pedestrian route constructed by the City of Chicago on an abandoned railroad viaduct. Jim, who teaches preservation planning in SAIC's Graduate Program in Historic Preservation, was the historic consultant for the trail, which was developed jointly with the Trust for Public Land (which produced the video). Here, he describes some of the industries that were served by the railroad tracks during the 19th and 20th centuries, including furniture, motorcycle, musical instrument, and toy manufacturers, as well as coal and lumber yards, breweries, and assorted other businesses.
