Commencement 2013

On Saturday, May 18, SAIC held its Commencement Ceremony for the class of 2013 at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. It was blue skies and sunshine as graduates shared this major milestone with their guests and the SAIC community.

Acclaimed American actor, playwright, and professor Anna Deavere Smith gave an inspiring Commencement speech, in which she discusses the ideas of freedom, utility, and power in relation to artistic practice. Watch her speech.

Linda Keane, Professor of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects gave an elegant introduction to architect and MacArthur Fellow Jeanne Gang, a 2013 Honorary Degree recipient. Gang is the founding principal of Studio Gang, a Chicago-based collective of architects, designers, and thinkers whose projects confront pressing contemporary issues. Watch the introduction.
