
Alum Emil Ferris Wins 2025 Whiting Award

School of the Art Institute of Chicago alum Emil Ferris (BFA 2008, MFA 2010), author of the groundbreaking graphic novels My Favorite Thing Is Monsters and My Favorite Thing Is Monsters: Book Two, has been named a 2025 Whiting Award recipient. Her work, which “explode[s] expectations of genre and form and alter[s] the way readers understand their experience of family, memory, and art,” earned her one of the nation’s most prestigious literary honors. The $50,000 Whiting Award recognizes emerging writers of exceptional promise. Ferris is currently working on a prequel, Records of the Damned, with Pantheon.
