What to Know About Graduate Student Loans
We want you to have a clear picture of your financial options. This guide covers the essentials of student loans—from eligibility requirements to the application process.
Overview of Loan Programs
There are various loan programs available to help graduate students finance their education. Eligibility for federal programs is based on the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application. Details on federal loans, including interest rates and loan processing fees, are available on the Department of Education's Student Aid Loan website.
Below is an overview of the main types of loans available. Please note: The FAFSA and all loan steps should be completed by July 1 before each fall-to-spring academic year and by January 1 for spring-only semesters.

Returning Students
New borrowers at SAIC only have to complete Loan Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN) applications their first time.
