First Year Advising
First Year Advising
As a Contemporary Practices student, you will be guided through your studies by faculty and advisors, who are themselves working artists and designers. They introduce you to a range of contemporary modes of working, connecting you with the history of multiple disciplines.
Your academic advisor will be one of your most important resources at SAIC, from the summer before your first semester and throughout your entire academic career. All first-year students have an assigned academic advisor who will be integrated into their Research Studio I course, participating in the first-year classroom experience. Advisors help connect you to all of SAIC’s academic and support resources and they provide feedback and guidance as you develop meaningful and challenging academic plans. All first-year students are required to meet with their advisor at least once each semester during their first two years.
After that, it is essential that you connect with an advisor at least once a semester in order to get the most out of your academic and co-curricular activities. With guidance from your advisor and faculty, you will be able to create your own educational path, tailoring experiences in both the classroom and studio.
Academic Advising is here to provide you with support that will help empower you to think, make, and explore inside and outside of SAIC.
