Dylan Yarbrough

Bio

Dylan Yarbrough (he/him) is an artist and educator based in Chicago. He currently teaches photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). His photography practice is rooted in documentary and socially engaged photography, exploring the intersections of personal narratives, community histories, and broader societal issues.

Dylan’s work is included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, the Joan Flasch Artists' Book Collection, the Center for Creative Photography, CPS Lives, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. His awards include the 2022–2023 Diane Dammeyer Fellowship, the 2020–2023 CPS Lives Fellowship, and the 2019 Stuart Abelson Fellowship.

His work has been exhibited at the Cleve Carney Museum of Art, the Historic Arkansas Museum, Glass Curtain Gallery, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and the Center for Creative Photography, among other venues.

Description

This course explores the techniques and aesthetics of black and white photography, from exposure to final prints. Students will develop skills in analog darkroom and inkjet printing, contrast control, lighting techniques, and the impact of scale, paper, and film choices. Hands-on projects and darkroom experimentation will deepen technical abilities and creative expression. An adjustable film camera is required.
