With Make Way: A Roadmap to Student Access, Equity, and Affordability, President Tenny worked to strengthen three core educational pillars: scholarships, wellness, and internships. In the new issue of School of the Art Institute of Chicago magazine, we catch up with three students who were impacted by this initiative.
Second-year student Daniel Villalobos said the Massey Scholarship totally changed the direction of his artistic career. Because of this funding, he now feels he can take risks and step outside of his comfort zone.
“I needed support, but ... I didn’t know which resources were available,” said student Sonja Mott. Enter the Disability and Learning Resource Center, where Mott was able to find the right accommodations to support their artistic journey.
For student Riley Gunderson, an internship with Kavi Gupta Gallery wasn’t just an opportunity for hands-on learning, it was a chance to diversify representation in the arts. The School’s internship stipends made it possible.
