The New York Times Profiles Alum Keioui Keijaun Thomas
The New York Times spotlighted alum Keioui Keijuan Thomas (MFA 2014), interviewing her on the evolution of her work and journey from the tokenism she’s experienced to transcendence. Thomas’s work explores themes surrounding the body, starting critical conversations about race, gender, and the mistreatment of Black trans and femme individuals. “The body is central to everything,” Thomas said of her work. “But it also is, like, the body is meant to be shape-shifting. And, for me, like a new language.” Thomas presented work in her solo show Hands Up, Ass Out, which exhibited through July 18 at Participant Inc. in Manhattan.
