The Financial Times Profiles Multi-Disciplinary Artist and Designer Sterling Ruby

The Financial Times reported on the unique position alum Sterling Ruby (BFA 2002) holds in the fashion world. In 2019, Ruby launched his own clothing label, SR STUDIO LA CA, after having made clothes for himself since he was 13. While his clothes aren’t traditional couture (often dubbed by him as “California Couture”), they represent many of Ruby’s inherent values and strive to represent the state of the world. His brand was one of only three invitees to January 2021 Paris Haute Couture Week, and his works have been collected by major institutions and influential figures, including Raf Simmons, the co-creative director of Prada.
