Alum Tia Etu Featured in "Murals and Mosaics"

The Chicago Sun-Times profiled multidisciplinary artist Tia Etu (BFA 1986) in their “Murals and Mosaic” series. Several of Etu’s murals can be found in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park, including The Artist Window, which was painted in 2015 for the town's arts district. This mural includes portraits of Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, and Etu herself. “I included myself, or at least the back of my head,” she said. “I did this to state that I am in a room with my equals, bringing my future into existence.” In addition to painting, Etu’s work includes jewelry making, sculpting, art restoration, and puppet making. She is the owner of Whatever Comes to Mind Studio, an art gallery in Oak Park where she teaches young artists. “She is a jewel in this community,” said Camille Wilson White, executive director of the Oak Park Area Arts Council. “A very, very talented artist."
