Alum Mohamad Kanaan Raises Over $100,000 for Beirut Relief Funds

In response to the explosions in Beirut, alum Mohamad Kanaan (MFA 2016) created an Instagram fundraiser, titled Art Relief For Beirut. With hundreds of people dead or missing, over 300,000 people displaced or injured, and an estimated 10 billion dollars in damage to the city's infrastructure, Impact Lebanon and the Lebanese Red Cross are two of the main organizations working on the frontlines. Art Relief for Beirut is aiding these organizations by posting original artwork from international artists, where buyers can comment "Reserve" on a post to purchase a piece. In an article from AnOther, Kanaan said"There has been a lot of support from the art community all over the world to help Beirut. The road to rebuilding the city is going to be long, but using the power of art to do good in the face of such destruction is a humbling honor. And I urge every artist to support this cause, their works can really make a difference."
