Rashid Johnson's New Exhibition Responds to the Pandemic

In his new online exhibition, Untitled Anxious Red Drawings, Rashid Johnson (SAIC 2003–04, HON 2018) shares works made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The drawings continue the visual language established in his Anxious Men series, which mirrors the trauma and uncertainties of modern life. The creation of these works led Johnson to reflect on his own practice, which is naturally solitary. The enforced social distance in response to the pandemic, Johnson says, "has not changed much for my drawings, but it has changed my thinking."

The online exhibition is being showcased on gallery Hauser & Wirth's site. Johnson will donate 10 percent of the proceeds of the sale of works towards the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization. This will be matched by the gallery, which has committed to donating 10 percent of gross profits from all online exhibitions.
