Edra Soto Awarded Inaugural Foundwork Artist Prize

Lecturer in Contemporary Practices Edra Soto (MFA 2000) was awarded the inaugural Foundwork Artist Prize, which is a new juried grant awarded to recognize outstanding artists on the Foundwork platform. Soto will receive an unrestricted $10,000 grant and studio visits with each of the inaugural jurors. This combination of financial support and personal engagement reflects Foundwork's goal to be a resource and facilitate professional development for artists. Soto was also interviewed by Foundwork about her work, which includes a commissioned public project, Screenhouse, for a two-year exhibition in Millennium Park's Boeing Gallery North. In addition, Professor Christine Tarkowski (MFA 1992, Fiber and Material Studies) was also commissioned to complete a project for the Boeing Gallery South. Tarkowski's project, When we call the Earth by way of distinction a planet and the Moon a satellite, we should consider whether we do not, in a certain sense, mistake the matter. Perhaps—and not unlikely—the Moon is the planet and the Earth the satellite! Are we not a larger moon to the Moon, than she is to us? and Soto's are on view through fall 2021.
