Newcity's "Art Top 5: November" Highlights Two Exhibitions with SAIC Community Members
In its selection of Art Top 5: November 2019, Newcity includes two exhibitions, Re:Working Labor and The Way the Mystic Sees, which feature works by the SAIC community. With Re:Working Labor at the SAIC Sullivan Galleries, Professor Dan Eisenberg (Film, Video, New Media, and Animation) and Adjunct Professor Ellen Rothenberg (Fiber and Material Studies) put in conversation the works of national and global artists working with the themes of labor, capitalism, and climate change. The exhibition is on view through November 27.
At the Weinberg/Newton Gallery, The Way the Mystic Sees, examines surveillance from a range of media. Among the featured artists are Nick Cave, professor and chair of Fashion, Body and Garment; Nadav Assor (MFA 2010); and Maryam Taghavi (MFA 2017). The exhibition is on view through December 14.
In celebration of alum Georgia O’Keeffe: My New Yorks opening current SAIC students were invited to submit artworks inspired by O’keeffe and the city of Chicago.
