Dread Scott Awarded Soros Equality Fellowship

The Soros Equality Fellowship awarded Dread Scott (BFA 1989) with $100,000 for his upcoming performance Slave Rebellion Reenactment. The community-engaged project will revist the German Coast Uprising of 1811, which is the largest slave rebellion in American history. With the support of the fellowship, Scott's reenactment with communities of Louisiana "will bring a bold vision of freedom and emancipation from the past into our present." The Open Society Foundation funds its midcareer Soros Equality Fellows in their ambitions to promote racial justice and equity among immigrants and people of color across the United States.
