Betelhem Makonnen Awarded Tito's Prize

Betelhem Makonnen (MFA 2019), a graduate of the Low-Residency MFA program, is the recipient of the third annual Tito's Prize, a $15,000 award intended to provide an artist the means to take a new step in their career. Based in Austin, Texas, Makonnen works with a variety of mediums that include video, photography, and installations. She is the cofounder of Black Mountain Project, a contemporary arts platform; a curator at Fusebox Festival; and the coeditor for Written & Spoken. To accompany the prize, Makonnen will have a solo show at the Big Medium Gallery from March 6–April 4, 2020.
